We're located in the heart of the Twin Cities, where an energetic and creative community complements the dynamic business landscape. Staff who relocate to our firm are usually quick to experience the reasons why this is one of the most desirable metropolitan areas of the country.
Our History
Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A. was founded in 1979 by six lawyers who decided to leave one of the largest Twin Cities law firms to start their own practice. In only 25 years, we've grown to over 100 lawyers. This growth has resulted not only from the remarkable talents of our lawyers, but also from the philosophy that lawyers should focus on what they do best -- practicing law and serving client needs.
Our Commitment
A cornerstone of our philosophy is to challenge new lawyers with interesting and complex legal projects as well as early client contact. From shareholders to first-year associates, each lawyer has the autonomy to make his or her own decisions. New lawyers are encouraged to develop their professional judgments with guidance from more experienced members of the firm. We have found that this approach not only accelerates skills development but also fosters an enjoyable, fulfilling work experience.
Our Practice
Our business and commercial litigation practice covers all commercial disciplines with particular focus and expertise in the areas of antitrust, employment, securities, intellectual property, product liability, insurance, financial institutions, class actions, appellate, and general and complex business litigation. First- and second-year litigation associates argue motions, take depositions, write briefs, and conduct jury and bench trials in state and federal courts.
Winthrop & Weinstine's corporate and transactional law practice areas include mergers and acquisitions, venture finance, emerging businesses, securities, employment, real estate, taxation, banking, and bankruptcy. In addition, we have an active government relations practice that lobbies on behalf of our clients before local, state, and federal governments and governmental agencies. We also advise and counsel clients in many other areas, including intellectual property law, telecommunications, employment law, franchising, environmental and regulatory compliance, and estate planning. First- and second-year corporate and transactional associates routinely meet with clients, structure, draft, and negotiate agreements, and take an active role in all aspects of the business transactions.
