Five Winthrop & Weinstine Shareholders Named to "Top 40 Business Litigation Attorneys" List in Minnesota Law & Politics


Minnesota Law & Politics, a leading legal publication, named five shareholders from Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., to their annual "Top 40 Business Litigation Attorneys" list. Included for 2009 are Thomas H. Boyd, Geoffrey P. Jarpe, Matthew R. McBride, Brooks F. Poley and Robert R. Weinstine. The "Top 40" reflects the top attorneys in Minnesota based on the Super Lawyers® list.

Thomas H. Boyd practices primarily in the area of commercial litigation. He has handled cases involving contract law, tort law, probate and trust matters, employment law, intellectual property, eminent domain and land use, product liability, insurance coverage, environmental law, and a variety of other areas.Mr. Boydi s a founding member and former chair of the Appellate Practice Committee of the Minnesota State Bar Association and has served on the boards of directors of the ABA's Council of Appellate Lawyers and the Eighth Circuit Bar Association.

Geoffrey P. Jarpe joined Winthrop & Weinstine in 2005 with an impressive record. He has represented plaintiffs and defendants in lawsuits and arbitrations for more than 30 years in Minnesota and many other jurisdictions. He has handled hundreds of cases throughout his career, most in a first-chair capacity. During that time, Mr. Jarpe has tried securities fraud cases, corporate ownership and valuation disputes, director and officer liability and fiduciary duty cases, contract cases, and a variety of real estate cases, including condemnation, ownership, zoning and land-use disputes.

Matthew R. McBride is a commercial litigator and concentrates on handling creditors' remedies, construction, shareholder and general business disputes. Mr. McBride has litigated hundreds of cases in the state and federal and appellate courts. He has also handled several administrative matters in the State of Minnesota-Office of Administrative Hearings. He is focused on resolving disputes in a manner that preserves client value and interests—be it through early alternative dispute resolution or aggressive litigation where appropriate.

Brooks F. Poley is chair of the Business & Commercial Litigation department and represents clients in a wide array of complex commercial litigation. His experience includes the successful handling of substantial contract actions; product liability claims; shareholder disputes on behalf of both buyers and sellers; tort actions; private and government antitrust disputes; intellectual property actions involving patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret claims; insurance coverage disputes; and securities actions.

Robert R. Weinstine, a founding member of the firm, is a nationally known trial attorney representing clients in the areas of antitrust, securities fraud, products liability, shareholder disputes and related commercial litigation. As a founding partner of Winthrop & Weinstine, Mr. Weinstine has also been key in building a successful, dynamic law firm. In addition, Mr. Weinstine has been instrumental in building the top-notch litigation department for which Winthrop & Weinstine is known.
