MINNEAPOLIS, MN – November 5, 2010. Geoffrey P. Jarpe, a shareholder at Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., has been elected to serve as Treasurer of the
Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers of Minnesota (ACTLM).
ACTLM is an association of trial specialists who have met a stringent test of certification standards. The standards to achieve certification, established by the National Board of Trial Advocacy or the Minnesota State Bar Association, include at least five years of experience in the practice area of specialization, including experience as lead counsel in at least 15 trials which include 45 days of trial and five jury trials and 40 additional contested cases – plus educational qualifications, recommendations of designated judges and attorneys, completion of a written examination and appropriate good standing in the state. Once an organization of 25 members, ACTLM now boasts approximately 335 certified trial specialists of the 25,560 licensed attorneys in Minnesota.
Geoff has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in lawsuits and arbitrations for more than 30 years. He has handled hundreds of cases throughout his career, most in a first-chair capacity. He has tried securities fraud cases, corporate ownership and valuation disputes, director and officer liability and fiduciary duty cases, contract cases, and a variety of real estate cases, including condemnation, ownership, zoning and land use disputes. He received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and his B.A. from the University of Michigan.
