Robert R. Weinstine Receives The Ellis Island Medal of Honor

MINNEAPOLIS -- May 12, 2014 -- Robert R. Weinstine, founder of Minneapolis firm Winthrop & Weinstine was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honor. The award recognizes individuals who share their wealth of knowledge, indomitable courage, boundless compassion, unique talents and selfless generosity with those less fortunate all while maintaining the traditions of their ethnic heritage as they uphold the ideals and spirit of America. The Ellis Island Medals of Honor embody the spirit of America in celebration of patriotism, tolerance, brotherhood and diversity.

“I am honored to be selected as a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor,” said Weinstine. “As a child of first generation immigrants, I am proud of all of the opportunities I’ve had as a U.S. citizen and am honored to give back to my community through my professional and volunteer work.”

This honor is part of The National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations (NECO), which presented the 28th Annual Ellis Island Medals of Honor to more than 100 other distinguished Americans during a ceremony on Ellis Island on May 10, 2014.

Weinstine is a nationally known trial attorney representing clients in the areas of antitrust, securities fraud, products liability, shareholder disputes and related commercial litigation. As a founding partner of Winthrop & Weinstine, he has been key in building a successful, dynamic law firm and instrumental in building the top-notch litigation department for which Winthrop & Weinstine is known.

This award also acknowledges Winthrop & Weinstine as a firm, which is deeply involved in the community by volunteering with various charities and boards and doing pro-bono work. The firm partners with LegalCORPS, a non-profit organization that uses volunteer attorneys to provide free legal services to low-income owners of small businesses, other non-profits and innovators, much in the same way that Weinstine began his career. In addition, Winthrop & Weinstine also sponsors families, participates in a number of food, clothing and school supply drives, actively participates in community development and is particularly drawn to clients who are members of the local community.
