Evan C. Sheets is an associate in Winthrop & Weinstine’s securities and corporate finance practice group. He helps firm clients, ranging from community banks to large corporations, structure their capital raising efforts to comply with state and federal regulations.
Evan has a strong background in the securities arena. Prior to joining Winthrop & Weinstine, Evan worked in the Division of Corporation Finance of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). At the SEC, he researched issues surrounding private placements and other exempt securities offerings; drafted legal memoranda on difficulties encountered by issuers and investors when dealing with threshold reporting requirements of Section 12(g) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934; and assisted SEC attorneys in drafting rules required under the Dodd-Frank Act. Evan also interned at the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) in the Department of Enforcement, where he worked on enforcement actions relating to wash trading, anti-money laundering and conflicts of interests between financial advisors and underwriters; and interned with the Honorable Robert M. Dow, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
