Jeff Stone is a registered patent attorney and came to Winthrop & Weinstine from a highly successful IP boutique, where he served as the Managing Partner. He serves as chair of the Patent Prosecution group.

Before becoming an attorney, Jeff worked in industry for twelve years with medical device companies, both large and startup, in design and development functions.

The combination of his unique industrial background and significant legal experience provides Jeff with highly relevant and focused insight into his clients’ businesses and strategies, allowing him to gain quickly, and maintain, the trust and respect of his clients. In addition, these experiences enabled and encouraged Jeff to develop a very distinctive vision of Innovation as it relates to the design, development and commercialization processes.

As a result, Jeff is uniquely positioned to assist clients in maximizing the value of innovation by facilitating very early integration of Purposeful Innovation Strategies into the design process, and in certain cases in the development process. Ultimately, Jeff’s clients realize value-added benefits including:
  • Generating a maximum amount of target-specific IP in a very short period of time, including identifying the best core innovation to pursue to commercialization, as well as establishing a dense and highly relevant protective shield around the to-be-commercialized core innovation;
  • Maximizing “true ownership” of core inventive concepts;
  • Generating additional monetization opportunities;
  • Enabling employees traditionally charged with innovating to realize their full creative potential;
  • Infusing all employees with a sense that they are capable of profound and valuable innovation and with a unique ability to integrate the learned Purposeful Innovation Strategies into day-to-day work, further driving value through highly efficient and target-driven innovation; and
  • Systematically creating a culture of innovation throughout the organization.
Jeff’s legal expertise covers Intellectual Property matters generally, including a focus on patent prosecution (domestic and foreign), patentability opinions, non-infringement opinions, diligence, litigation, licensing and strategic client counseling.

Jeff is a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during Operation Desert Storm and beyond.
