Experience
Michael T. Olsen is chair of the Technology & Intellectual Property Transactions group at Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., and counsels clients in a variety of complex intellectual property and technology licensing matters. He assists in negotiating and drafting technology and software licenses and has expertise in the following areas:

• Web site hosting and development agreements
• Online terms and conditions of use policies
• IP audits, policies and procedures
• Software development, license and reseller agreements
• Joint development agreements
• Trade secret policies
• Publishing agreements
• Internet, computer and e-commerce transactions
• IT outsourcing transactions
• Trademark licensing
• Sales, distribution and reseller agreements

Michael became a shareholder in 2007. Before joining the firm, he received a master of laws in intellectual property with honors and focused his practice in IP for five years at a Washington law firm. He has extensive international trademark and copyright experience and assists clients with a variety of e-commerce, software and technology licensing issues, including open source software and cloud computing issues. He also represents clients in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board.

Michael serves small- to mid-size companies and large public corporations, including international entities based in the Americas and Europe. His industry knowledge includes outdoor/sports and recreation, food and beverage, technology, medical device, music and software. In addition to building the practice by mentoring IP associates in his group, he also speaks about technology and software licensing issues.
