I advise private companies and private equity funds with middle-market merger and acquisition transactions. In addition, I consistently lead the drafting and negotiation of a wide range of commercial contracts for a number of privately held businesses, assist companies with raising capital and advise clients regarding general business matters.
When a client comes to me with an important matter, the biggest priority is to get the deal done. I work with my clients to cut to the core of what is essential to them in each transaction, what their goals and motivations are, so together we can structure a deal that satisfies their needs. I like knowing what their destination is and guiding a client to that destination. I have always known that I wanted to work in the business world, and enjoy the complex work of deal management and understanding a client’s business. Because I focus on the business side, as well as the legal side, I work with clients to understand their needs first, and then apply the law to those needs, rather than the other way around.
Before I became a lawyer, I was a business consultant in the finance arena working primarily with Fortune 500 companies, and I wrap that experience together with my legal background to be a true advisor to my clients.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy playing hockey and was a former NCAA Division I ice hockey player, make use of the fantastic Twin Cities bike trail system, and am an avid Minnesota sports fan. I also regularly do pro bono work through LegalCORPS, a non-profit that matches business attorneys with low-income entrepreneurs and small non-profits in Minnesota.
