At first glance, it may not seem like “Corporate attorney” is the logical next step with a background in economics and as a head chef at a high end restaurant. However, I saw getting into the transactional side of the law as a way to do the same thing I’d do as an economist – help businesses run more efficiently. The thing that gives me the greatest satisfaction about my work is streamlining transactions for my clients. Just like my days back in the kitchen, I enjoy the process of making sure that everything goes according to plan, and that we come through the transaction in a way that exceeds my clients’ expectations. Business owners have enough on their plates, with the day-to-day work of running their companies; I’m happy to alleviate some of that burden, in whatever way it’s needed.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my wife and daughter, and watching NDSU Bison football together – we’ve been to 6 of their 7 national championships. I go fishing with my dad in Canada in the summer, and I still love to cook – and dream up new ways to cook walleye.
I represent clients in all aspects of corporate transactions, including purchases and sales of businesses and commercial property, equity investments, and liquidations and spin-offs. I also act as outside general counsel to numerous businesses, helping them create, negotiate, and manage commercial contracts, licenses, confidentiality agreements, loans, leases, employment agreements, vendor and customer relationships, collateral security and bankruptcy issues, and other start-up and operational matters.
