Robert C. Chidester

Laws set the foundation for innovation; it’s the jumping-off point for entrepreneurs and leaders.

My Approach

I have always been interested in the way things work, and that is why I became a lawyer. Deals emerge from ideas and relationships, but understanding the law is key to structuring the right transaction. I have an inter-disciplinary background, and that helps me better understand the mechanics and details of complex transactions. Fourteen years ago, I started my career as a policy and financial analyst for a the U.S. Department of Energy’s laboratory system, and I have since worked with and represented sovereign wealth funds, investors, laboratories, grant giving organizations, and entrepreneurs. I also spent a significant portion of my legal career working with family offices and asset managers, and I understand the problems that can occur after a deal closes. Successful businesses must address complicated relationships and business interests, and the best transactions can avoid many future problems with a thoughtful structure. I work closely with my clients to understand their businesses and goals to arrive at the best outcome on each transaction.

My single biggest focus outside of work is my family, including my wife Stephanie and young son Jackson. I enjoy astronomy, photography, and collect whiskey. I am an avid golfer, and love to travel and scuba dive.
