Energy Development & Construction attorney Justin Markell will speak at the Renewable Energy in the Midwest conference on October 18, 2019. Speaking with other local attorneys, the session, “Financing Challenges and Trends for Renewable Energy Projects,” will look at the financing challenges in bringing more renewable energy projects to market in the Midwest, as well as trends in renewable energy project acquisitions.
Specifically, Justin will discuss a financeable Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) as an essential prerequisite for obtaining financing, as well as market trends and tips for working with developers and incumbent companies to find effective solutions.
The other topics covered during the session will be:
- Deal structures: The big trend toward utility ownership of renewables in the Midwest and overview of build-own-transfer deal structures; and
- New projects and upcoming cliffs for the PTC for wind and the ITC for solar: Update on tax incentives, project structure trends, and market conditions.
Why you should attend
While resistance persists amongst policy makers at the federal level, the Midwest renewables market continues to expand and mature. This year’s program will address regional and local market coordination, utilities’ enhanced role in renewable energy implementation, storage opportunities, and project siting optimization.
