Attorney Steve Baird, chair of the Trademark and Brand Protection practice, was quoted in an article in the USA TODAY Sports titled “Appeals court vacates decisions that canceled Redskins trademark registrations,” which discussed the final decision by the Supreme Court regarding the trademark battle between the Washington football team and native American groups. As the attorney behind the original legal case against the team in 1992, Baird has continued to follow the trademark battle over the years, often writing about the case on DuetsBlog, Winthrop & Weinstine’s Intellectual Property blog. He commented on the team’s argument, “The team chooses to wrap itself in the American flag, and say, ‘We have a First Amendment right to disparage.’”
