In their latest edition, WTR quoted trademark attorney Steve Baird’s blog post for his insight on a recently launched Budweiser and Jim Beam brand collaboration, Copper Lager.

Budweiser and Jim Beam team up and offer brand lessons

In his DuetsBlog post, “Budweiser and Jim Beam on the Same Team,” Steve commented, “it’s really not a good idea, from a trademark perspective, to mix and blend the combined brands into a single new visual identity, as doing so raises questions of ownership and how to untangle… Thankfully these brand owners are sophisticated enough not to combine Jim Beam and Budweiser into a single trademark filing, sadly I’ve seen co-mingling before, and it isn’t much fun to unwind.”

World Trademark Review agrees that the partnership is an “intriguing collaboration,” and as evidenced by the topic’s inclusion on their bi-weekly news round-up, it seems this is one to watch.
