Minneapolis – June 22, 2018 – Winthrop & Weinstine, P.A., is proud to announce that attorney Martha J. Engel has been named a 2018 Up & Coming Attorney by Minnesota Lawyer. The award highlights lawyers in their first 10 years of practice who have already distinguished themselves by their achievements.
Nominees for the Up & Coming Attorney award are judged on their professional accomplishments, leadership, service to the community and to the profession. Winners are chosen by a panel of prior award winners.
“Martha has a passion for helping businesses realize the value of their IP,” noted Scott Dongoske, Firm President, “but she also understands that IP is just one aspect of her clients’ businesses. She excels in a number of other areas, from contract review to supplier agreements, and her true care for her clients shows in everything she does. She is highly regarded by both attorneys and staff at Winthrop & Weinstine.”
As a shareholder in the Intellectual Property practice group at Winthrop & Weinstine, Martha helps clients maximize the value of their intellectual property assets, whether patents or trademarks, and protect and enforce their rights to use those assets. In her practice, Martha’s background in Mechanical Engineering offers the opportunity to balance her creative and technical sides, helping her to communicate with clients in the very technical details of their work, but also apply creative legal theories and strategies to protecting and enforcing their rights.
Martha believes that civic responsibility is integral to the legal profession, and has dedicated time to the communities that impacted her development. She has volunteered with the City of St. Paul, her hometown, on the Capital Improvements Budget Task Force, and the Highland District Council. She also has held leadership positions with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the alumnae association of her all-girls high school, which had a vast impact on her goals and ambition. As a woman working in two male-dominated professions – engineering and the law – she has a deep appreciation of women supporting each other, and works to pass that support forward to future women leaders.
The Up & Coming Attorney honorees will be recognized September 12 at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Minneapolis. Minnesota Lawyer will also publish a special section profiling the honorees in the September 2018 edition.
